Clean Indian Railways – How to get clean travel experience in your railway coach

Indian railways have been always blamed for their poor services and standards, however being the largest network of its kind. In an attempt to make the travel experience in trains a delightful one, Indian railways has introduced a cleanliness regime COACH – MITRA services via SMS or portal logging.

Why and When to Use this Service :

When you travel in Indian trains, you can expect crowd, dirt, unhygienic toilets, no bedrolls, dirty floor or berths, inoperating fans or lights and all the other things we experience and accept that things won’t improve.

So when you face the above next time, you know you can get them fixed or rectified.

How to avail this service :

Typical habit of Indian crowd. You tear down the place from where you might get help.

Anyway the railways realized it and used something that might sustain longer against the weird people.

Once you know what your problem is, you can just send a SMS in the below format.

CLEAN YourPNRNumber ServiceTypeCode

SMS to 58888

E.g. CLEAN 383837389 C

The SMS will cost you 3 Rs

You can log your request via portal

How the action will be taken

You will get an SMS confirmation once the complaint is logged.

In some time you might get a call from the technician or cleaning supervisor regarding your coach and nature of problem. After attending your call, may be within 30 minutes someone will visit you and address your problem.

Once the problem is addressed you will be asked to fill the feedback form and you will have to share the feedback code you received from the services center. Once your request is closed you will get a SMS to intimate about it.

These services are not available between 10pm to 6am.

Reliability of this service :

First time I requested for cleanliness, it was after 10pm so they sent a message stating the time of operations.

Second time I requested for cleanliness, it was acted immediately within 30 minutes.

One of the traveller requested for bedroll, however he didn’t receive it. Not sure if that service is applicable in all trains for all classes. We were in sleeper class.

I hope you will have better travel experiences after using this service. It is primarily the duty of the passengers to keep the railways clean, consider it as their own property and even then if there is something that needs to be fixed or cleaned then they must for sure complaint or use this service.

Open Letter to SG Neginhal, Man behind greenery of Bengaluru

Dear Neginhal,

First of all let me thank you heart fully for the amazing work you have done in the forest department and especially for the green work done in Bengaluru. You rightly deserve to be called the man behind the city’s greenery.

How is your life nowadays and what are the various things you are involved in?

I see you are not available on any social media platform, makes me wonder if you have any particular reasoning behind that. I have come to know about the books you have written with regards to Forestry in India and how you want to inspire the younger generation to be actively involved in Environmental and Forest development. Thank you for sharing your life experiences via books.

This letter is in regards to the latest environmental issues seen in India. I wanted to know your expert views on the same. I wanted to know if you have any special suggestions so that we can approach the problems in a different way. There are many issues related to Environment in India, however I want to highlight following 3 incidents :

  • Chennai Floods 2015
  • Highest Temperature in Bengaluru since 1931
  • Water scarcity in Marathawad

Please share your thoughts on the above mentioned events. I am particularly interested to know your views on temperature shoot in Bengaluru. What could have been done differently in Bengaluru or Karnataka to avoid this situation or if this is a cause of global issue which likely is, what is that Indian Government can do differently.

Recently there has been a summit over climate control globally in Paris. What would be your suggestions to the representatives from India on the UNFCCC.

You might wonder what compelled me to write to you and what is this all about! I have read about your work since childhood and I have looked up to you as a hero. In a country where we are fighting over trivial issues and where no one is clear about how to go about doing something, you had vision and rigor to change the face of a city and you accomplished it very well.

Times have changed from then and we have equally skillful and determined visionaries in the country, but for now they seem to be little bit confused. We don’t want to wait them to gain that conscience in another 20 years. Since you already have all the qualities if you can give a direct message to the youth it would be really helpful.

Looking forward to know your thoughts.

Your’s sincerely,
